Third Workshop on Plasma for Environmental Issues
The 3rd International Workshop Plasmas for Environmental Issues will take place during the 37th EPS Conference on Plasma Physics, on the conference site, on the afternoon of 23 of June. The workshop consists of 8 invited lectures given by top speakers on different applications of plasmas with impact on environment. All participants to the 37th EPS can freely attend the workshop and are cordially invited to do so.
The idea is to promote exchange of knowledge between experts in various fields of environmental plasma applications, to assess the state-of- the art in this field from a multidisciplinary viewpoint and to establish basic trends for future research and cooperation.
The invited speakers of this workshop are well known specialists in plasma science and engineering.
Plasma-based technologies for ecosystem protection are presently a growing field of research. The research is usually motivated by the need to develop detailed understanding of application - specific phenomena that may have important consequences for practice. An application attracts the science in an effort to replace empirical development with scientific rigour. The success is found when the science and application advance together.
The 2nd International Workshop Plasmas for Environmental Issues is organized by the Institute of Plasmas and Nuclear Fusion, Lisbon, Portugal, Laboratoire Plasma et Conversion d'Energie (LAPLACE), Université "Paul Sabatier", Toulouse, France, and St. Kliment Ohridsky, University of Sofia, Sofia, Bulgaria. We would like to acknowledge the organizing committee of the 37th EPS Conference on Plasma Physics for the help to organize the workshop.

INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON THE ROLE OF ARCING AND HOT SPOTS IN MAGNETIC FUSION DEVICES
Dublin, Republic of Ireland; June 25 - June 26, 2010
as a satellite of the European Physical Society 37th Conference on Plasma Physics
Dear colleague,
recognising a revival of interest in localized self-sustained parasitic discharges at plasma facing components in the edge of fusion devices a dedicated workshop aiming on
The Role of Arcing and Hot Spots in Magnetic Fusion Devices
will be organized as a satellite event to the 37th EPS conference on Plasma Physics
(Dublin, June 22 - 26, 2010).
Workshop Topics
The workshop focuses on all aspects of arcing and hot-spots as essential problems of plasma wall interaction in fusion devices, therefore the whole spectrum of themes may be addressed, including
* in-situ and post mortem observations of arcs and hot-spots
* relation to plasma states or phases (ELMs, disruptions etc.)
* distribution in the machine
* amount of erosion and re-deposition
* emission of macroparticles and contribution to dust
* imbedding in the near-wall plasma (unipolar vs. bipolar arcs)
* arcs and hot-spots on coated plasma facing components
* feedback action on the near-wall plasma
- diagnostics for arcs and hot-spots
- theory of arc ignition, motion, and stability
- theory and modeling of arcs and hot spots in fusion plasmas
All contributions to these and related items are welcome.
Schedule
Opening: Friday, June 25, 2010, 17.00 h
Closing: Saturday, June 26, 2010, 16.00 h
Review presentations will be 30'
Oral presentation will be allowed 20 minutes plus 10 minutes for discussion.
There are no posters planned.
Venue and Presentation Facilities
A room will be booked in the School of Nursing (situated at the campus of the Dublin City University). Standard equipment for electronical presentation will be available. The precise location of the room will be given in the May-mail.
Registration
Because this will be a small event we will manage the registration by e-mail to
Michael.Laux@ipp.mpg.de
Please send your mail until Friday, 30th April 2010. It should contain your contact information, your affiliation, and in case you plan to give a contribution the preliminary title and an abstract (less then 200 words, please). There will be no web-site available.
Workshop Fee
The fee will be 35€ for each participant. This covers the room with equipment and the costs for the coffee breaks (no lunch, no accommodation). The fee is due at the arrival at the workshop venue at the beginning of the workshop.
Acceptance of Contributions
The program committee (see below) will send an email of acceptance (or rejection) during the first week of May 2010. No proceedings are planned at the moment.
